Everymate 5kg Technique Bar Review
Updated August 2026 First look · Tested August 2026 · 1 video
If your kid wants to lift and a 45 lb bar is too much, this gets her on a real bar now instead of watching. It's 11 lbs, the 25 mm shaft fits small hands, and it fits a normal rack. The catch is it's aluminum and it doesn't feel heavy duty, so you'll outgrow it. First impressions only. I'll tell you how it holds up once I've used it longer.

Buy it if
- Buy it if your kid wants to lift and an empty 45 lb bar is too heavy.
- Buy it if you're a beginner who isn't ready for a full Olympic bar yet.
- Buy it if you want to learn the snatch or clean and jerk without much load.
- Buy it if you want a light warm-up bar that still fits your rack.
Skip it if
- Skip it if you want a bar to train heavy on.
- Skip it if you coach competition lifters who need a full-length comp bar.
- Skip it if you need a published drop rating and warranty before you buy.
Before you buy
What I don't love
Doesn't feel heavy duty
It's 11 lbs of aluminum, so it feels like a small bar on the rack. Good enough to get started, not a bar to load up.
The 150 lb rating
That's about three times what other technique bar makers list. I haven't tested it, and if you're putting 150 on a technique bar, you've outgrown it.
Short and short-sleeved
It's 1790 mm long with about 9 inches of sleeve per side, so it's shorter than a comp bar and won't hold much.
No drop rating
Everymate doesn't publish one. I wouldn't drop an aluminum bar loaded.

My 30-day update is next, with my daughters using it. I'll add it here when it's up.

A real bar instead of a toy
I unbox it, check the knurling and load it in the squat rack. It fits like a normal bar and takes standard bumpers.
Questions I get
How much does it weigh?
5 kg, which is 11 lbs. About a quarter of a men's Olympic bar.
Can you put real plates on it?
Yes. It has standard 2 inch sleeves, so bumpers slide right on. There's only about 9 inches per side though, so you're not loading much.
Is it good for kids?
That's why it's in my gym. The light weight and the 25 mm shaft make a real barbell something a kid can actually use.
Can you drop it loaded?
Everymate doesn't say, and I'm not going to guess. Aluminum technique bars generally aren't made to be dropped.
