My takeBest for Solo lifters, no spotter

If you train alone and want to press heavy without a rack, this is built for you. The spotter arms are part of the frame, it folds flat to the wall, and the labeled hardware makes the build easy. The catch is my size. I have to shimmy out sideways after every set and the leg rollers land on my knees, so I might be a little too big for it. First impressions only. I'll tell you how it holds up once I've used it longer.

Buy it if

  • Buy it if you train alone and want to press heavy without a spotter.
  • Buy it if you don't have the room or ceiling for a power rack.
  • Buy it if you need it to fold flat against the wall when you're done.
  • Buy it if you already own 1 inch plates, since they fit too.

Skip it if

  • Skip it if you're my size or bigger and getting in and out every set will bug you.
  • Skip it if you want one piece of gear for everything. Dumbbells or a rack do more.
  • Skip it if you press more than 200 lbs per side.

Before you buy

What I don't love

Getting out from under it

Once I'm under the press arms, I have to shimmy out sideways to stand up. Not dangerous, just awkward every single set.

Leg rollers hit my knees

At 6'5" the foam rollers sit on my knees instead of my shins, so the ab station doesn't work for me.

The 1,250 lb number

That's not what you can press. It's 450 on the bench, 200 per arm, and the rest is the plate storage pins. Use 200 per arm.

Bring a socket wrench

The final tighten-down is 17 mm and the included wrenches will eat your evening.

Does it fit a 6'5" guy? Barely.

I build it on camera, load it and press. The labeled hardware made the build easy, and the fit at my size was the surprise.

Questions I get

How much can you actually press on it?

200 lbs per arm, 400 across both. The 1,250 lb headline counts the bench and the plate storage pins too.

Does it fit a tall guy?

Barely. At 6'5" I have to shimmy out sideways and the leg rollers land on my knees. I might be a little too big for it.

Is assembly hard?

It's seven steps and a lot of pieces, but the hardware is bagged by step. Finger tighten everything until the frame is together, then torque it down with a 17 mm socket.

Do my old standard plates fit?

Yes. The pegs are 1 inch with 2 inch sleeves that slide over the top. Pull the sleeve and your standard plates fit.

Does it fold up?

Pull one pin and it folds upright against the wall, with plate storage inside the footprint.
