When I was younger, I used to love to go to the gym and it was a great place to work out, show off, meet people, whatever. But as I got older, I realized a home gym was the way to go. And now that I'm in my 40s, I am super grateful that I have a home gym. And there's a ton of reasons why.

But in this video, I want to give you five reasons why I think every man in their 40s should have a home gym. Hey, my name is Mike Behrens and over 20 years ago I decided to become a professional wrestler and have been doing it for the last 20 years. And in that time, I've been in a lot of different gyms.

I've worked out at gyms, I've done bodybuilding workouts, CrossFit workouts, all kinds of stuff to keep my fitness and to to look the part of a professional wrestler. And for the last ten years, I've had a home gym, and it has been a godsend for me because making a home gym so that I can workout whenever I want, can train whenever I want to, can take days off, can go to the gym, not be bothered, not talk to people, not have any of that stuff has been huge.

But there's five big reasons why I think every guy should have a home gym, or at least start to build their home gym. Ten years ago, when I started making my gym, I started with a barbell and some bumper plates in the garage on the concrete floor, and that was it. And then I built myself old, old fashioned squat rack and started to slowly progress from there to what I have today, which is a full on home gym that I've turned a single car garage into a gym space with, complete with a squat rack and walls and all the equipment that I've acquired over the years.

But you got to start somewhere. And here's five reasons why you should get started building your home gym. First reason that you should start with your home gym is so you can workout. Life is busy. There's so much going on. There's so many things that we have every single day. Do you have time to get to the gym?

Do you have time to to get in a workout? And then how much does it take away from other things that you have to do and with the working out at home makes it so maybe you can actually get it done. You know, if you prioritize it first thing in the morning, you can go workout and get that workout in and then set up the rest of your day, or coming home from a long day at work and you don't want to go to the gym.

Now you have a gym at home. You can actually workout, so that's a pretty easy one. Next reason you should have a home gym is so you can set an example. And I'm talking for your wife, for your kids, for your community, for your friends, other guys that you talked to. Set an example by prioritizing your fitness, by having a home gym so that you're making sure you're getting that in, you're taking care of your health.

It's going to set a great example for your wife. It's going to let her know that you're serious about taking care of your health, which is probably going to make her a little more attracted to you. You're going to set a great example for your kids. They're going to be like, oh man, dad's working out, so this is great.

I want to be like, dad. I know my daughters do that when they see me working out, when they see my wife in our home gym, the kids want to do it too. So it's setting a great example. And that's a great reason. Maybe the best reason to have a home gym. Next thing is it's a huge cost savings.

Now upfront there's definitely some costs, but over time you're going to save a ton of money on paying for a gym. Now I understand it's space might be an issue, but if you if you've got the space and if you can find the space for a home gym, then you will save a ton of money on your gym cost over the years.

So let's do the math real quick. Let's just say, for example, that a gym membership is $100 a month. Well, $100 a month times 12 months in the year. That's $1,200 that you have to spend on that home gym to get things set up. Now, I understand that might be a little hard to do upfront, but if you piecemeal it one piece at a time, you slowly add a piece here and there.

You can build that home gym over the course of a year, to the point where you don't have to go to the gym anymore. And then if you factor that in over the course of five years, $1,200 a year times five years, that $6,000 that you can save or put into building a pretty awesome home gym for yourself.

So it is a cost savings in the long run, for sure. The next reason is self-sufficiency. I'm a huge advocate of being as self-sufficient as possible, and getting a gym at home will force you to become a little more self-sufficient. You won't be relying on anyone else. You'll have to figure out workouts. You'll have to take ownership of what it is that you're doing on a day to day basis to improve your fitness.

So being more self-sufficient and that is not a bad thing, because then you can help other people in your community, help your family be a little more self-sufficient by taking control of your health and leading the way so that self-sufficiency piece. When you are a home gym owner, you're kind of forced into it. And I like that. And I think it's a great reason to have a home gym so you can be more self-sufficient.

And then the last reason that I think is huge for having a home gym is freedom. You have freedom to workout when you want. You have freedom to go to the gym and not have to talk to anybody, not have to make nice to anybody, not have to worry about somebody taking your equipment or somebody screwing up your routine, or somebody trying to talk to you or somebody having questions.

You know that I used to not mind that when I was younger, but now that I'm a little bit older, I don't want to talk to anybody. I want to get my workout in and I want to be done. You also have the freedom to struggle, and I'm not someone who likes to struggle in front of other people.

I know most men are not that way. You don't like to struggle. You don't like to show that little bit of vulnerability or that you can't do it. And having a home gym allows you to do that at home so that you can struggle privately in your home and you're in your own gym and not have to worry about what other people might think.

Now, you shouldn't care what other people think. I totally agree with that. But at the same time, it's a reality. Some guys struggle with that confidence piece. I used to struggle with that. I still do a lot of time struggle with this confidence of going into a gym and struggling. And maybe I'm not strong enough, or maybe my cardio sucks and somebody seeing me having a hard time.

It's not a great feeling. So you have the freedom to do that at your own home gym, which in turn will help you build some confidence, which will then help you show up better so that you can represent yourself better. You can be a better man, you can better perform in your life and your job and whatever it is that you're doing.

All because you started with that home gym and allowed yourself that space to struggle. Whereas a lot of guys get deterred because they don't want to struggle in front of other people in a gym. So that's a huge reason to me that we don't really think about when it comes to the benefits of having a home gym, but it's real.

It's definitely a real reason why guys should have a home gym. So that's kind of my quick little rant on reasons why you need to have a home gym. I definitely recommend that you start building that even. It's even if it's piece by piece. Start building your home gym so that you can take control of your fitness and make sure that that's a priority for you.

It only takes one piece at a time, one piece of equipment at a time. If you don't know where to get started, I'll put some resources in the description, some equipment that I recommend, some other links to, some other videos about how to get started in your home gym, and stay tuned to the channel so that I can give you some more tips on building your home gym and how you can perform better, recover faster, and live healthier.
